Apple has officially announced that they would showcase the next generation iPhone OS at a media event this week. Apple have sent an email to its developers early this week that the company will be holding the event at the Town Hall section of the Apple Campus at Cupertino at 10:00am PST, April 8.

One of the more substantial rumors regarding iPhone OS 4 is that it will at last include support for third party multitasking. Despite some assertions to the contrary, the iPhone is fully capable of supporting multitasking, it's just that Apple has only bestowed that ability upon its own apps, such as the iPod music player.
