Apple’s most recent patent application filed with the US Patent & Trademark Office is an evident indication that the iPhone-maker is set to mark its foray into the hugely-popular social networking arena.

File illustrates a social networking environment that can be created based on the proximity of other sheerly iPhones. It is about explaining how technology can be used for large group create electronically in some cases and situations in places such as fairs, concerts, cinemas, amusement parks, events, excursions, shopping, your local Starbucks and other socially-oriented sites and events. It describes the opening as an exchange of "tokens" using wireless standards like Blue-tooth or Wireless Fidelity (you all know as Wi-Fi).

Noting that modern wireless devices are capable of operating in an ad hoc mode which allows close-range wireless devices to discover and communicate via peer-to-peer approach sans central access points, Apple said in its patent: “A group can be created based on results of the analysis. Users can be identified as members of the group and invited to join the group.”
